Edgemere Bait and Tackle

Score: 6 out of 5 i95’s

So I roll into Edgemere Bait & Tackle, and Brian’s manning the counter. Couldn’t have been a nicer fella if he tried.

The shop? Loaded with no-name frog and snakehead lures. I’m talking “Who the hell made this?” brands you’ve never heard of, but they’ll catch fish faster than your wife catches you lying about how much you spent on tackle. These things are so ugly and effective, the snakeheads probably surrender out of pity.

If you’re the kind of angler who likes flashy name brands to show off on Instagram, keep driving. But if you want to actually catch fish instead of just posing with your Yeti cup, this is your spot.

Bottom line: Brian’s good people, the shop’s got weird-ass lures that work, and I’m giving Edgemere Bait & Tackle a 6 out of 5 i95’s—because why the hell not?

Pro tip: Go getcha selves some frogs and snakehead candy. The fish won’t know what hit ‘em.

Smoketown Bait & Tackle

So I squeezed in a quick detour to Smoketown Bait & Tackle in Brunswick, MD—just a 10-minute side trip on my way home from a work trip. Didn’t have much time to hang out, but I’m glad I swung by. Met the owner, Anthony—aka Andy—and this guy’s a super cool dude. I’ll definitely be making a return visit just for the chat.

Andy dropped a hot nugget—turns out the Landers section of the Potomac’s been producing some decent fish. Might have to give that a shot soon. It’s been a minute since I’ve hit the upper Potomac.

Go visit Andy! The small local shop has a great selection for anything you may need to fish the upper Potomac. He has live bait and I even heard crickets (I think they were for sale because the place was really clean). They also have a good lineup of St. Croix rods and a pretty sweet selection of hard baits, soft plastics, and other gear for the river.

I grabbed a few packs of bKd shad and a pack of “Right Bite Baits”—brands I don’t usually see around here. Figured I’d give them a shot. Never tried the “Right Bite” stuff before, so why not?

All in all, I gotta give Smoketown a solid 5 out of 5 I95’s. If you’re hunting anything in the upper Potomac or just hitting local creeks and ponds, this spot’s a must-visit.

Go see Andy!
