Chesapeake Bay (Deale/Poplar Island) – August 9, 2025
“Oversized Spot, Undersized Stripers”

Out of Deale Marina on the Sea Hunt, fished Poplar Island and beyond.
Weather & Conditions:
- Temps: Morning 60s warming into mid-70s.
- Barometric Pressure: ~30.2–30.3 inHg—steady and smug.
- Wind: Around 11 knots with some gusts.
- Tides: Rising tide mid-morning, peaking late afternoon.
Fishing Report:
Poplar Island was as dead as my houseplants—no topwater bites. Switched tactics, caught spot so big they looked like linebackers. Tried live-lining and hooked two striped bass… both under the limit, because of course.
Closing Roast:
We basically played “catch and release the undersized” all day. On the plus side, the boat ran fine, nobody fell overboard, and we learned that Spot can outgrow their job description.
